Ingredients
- All-purpose flour – 1 ¾ cups (220g)
- Baking powder – 1 teaspoon
- Salt – ½ teaspoon
- Unsalted butter – ½ cup (115g), softened
- Granulated sugar – ¾ cup (150g)
- Eggs – 2 large, at room temperature
- Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
- Whole milk – ½ cup (120ml)
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips – 1 cup (175g), lightly coated with 1 tablespoon of flour
Optional:
- Sour cream or yogurt – 2 tablespoons (for extra moisture)
- Orange zest – 1 tablespoon (for a citrusy twist)
Instructions
- Prepare the oven and pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line it with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
- Add wet ingredients: Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract and milk. Mix until combined.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Fold in chocolate chips: Toss the chocolate chips with 1 tablespoon of flour and gently fold them into the batter.
- Pour and bake: Transfer the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool and serve: Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and enjoy!
Notes
- To prevent chocolate chips from sinking, toss them in a tablespoon of flour before adding to the batter.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month.
- Add orange zest or swap some milk with orange juice for a citrus twist.
